CRESTMONT PARK CIVIC ASSOCIATION MONTHLY MEETING - TUESDAY, August 6, 2019

 

Dear Fellow Civic Members and Friends: 

The Crestmont Park Civic Association invites you to our monthly meeting this Tuesday, August 6, 2019, 7:00 PM, 5200 Selinsky Blvd., Houston, Texas 77048.  We have invited a guest from the City of Houston, Public Works Department to give us an update on several of the water related projects they are working on.  We have also invited our 2019 scholarship winners to come and introduce themselves to the community.

 

We are moving ahead with the planning of our Community Banquet to be held Saturday, October 12, 2019, 6:00 PM Reception followed by Dinner at 7:15 PM, Hilton Garden Inn, Houston Hobby Airport, 8001 Monroe Road, Houston, TX 77061.  Further details and tickets will be available at the meeting.

  • Houston Police Department Southeast Division, Monthly PIP (Positive Interaction Program) Meeting, will be held Thursday, August 8, 2019, 7:00 PM,
    8300 Mykawa Road.  The  guest speaker will be Sergeant Roger Espinoza who is assigned to the Homeless Outreach Team (H.O.T.).
  • September 3, 2019 General Meeting.  Our guest will be Ms. Grenita Lathan, Superintendent HISD.

Dear Fellow Civic Members and Friends: 

 

The Crestmont Park Civic Association invites you to our monthly meeting this Tuesday, June 4, 2019, 7:00 PM, 5200 Selinsky Blvd., Houston, Texas 77048.  Our first guest speaker will be Ms. Amanda Edwards, City of Houston, Council Member At-Large, Position 4.  Council Member Edwards will provide us an update from city hall.   

 

Our second guest will be Ms. Brandi Brown, Executive Director of the HYPE Freedom School, who will share information about their Summer Enrichment Program.  The HYPE Freedom School is a cultural literacy enrichment program that strengthens academic, civic and socio-emotional skills in a creative and fun way.

 

We will also conduct our annual elections.  All of our current officers (see listing below), except the Membership Secretary Position (which is vacant), have agreed to seek re-elections for their respective positions.  However, all positions will be open to nominations from the floor at the meeting.

 

HAPPY JUNETEENTH HOLIDAY (actual holiday June 19, 2019)!  We will celebrate and recognize this significant holiday with some light refreshments.

 

 Noah Rattler is asking for everyone’s support for our High School Scholarship     Program.  This year our goal is to award 2 high school scholarships to students who intend to further their post high school education.  Please come to the meeting prepared to make your pledge and/or contribution.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

The Crestmont Park Civic Association invites you to our monthly meeting this Tuesday, May 7, 2019, 7:00 PM, 5200 Selinsky Blvd., Houston, Texas 77048.  Our first guest speaker will be Mr. Jeh Dopson, with the City of Houston Department of Neighborhoods. He will update us on the city’s guidelines and rules that pertain to homeowner’s obligation to care for their property, as well as, other adjacent neighborhood property.

 

Noah Rattler will make an appeal of support for our High School Scholarship Program.  This year our goal is to award 2 high school scholarships to 2 students who intend to further their post high school education.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

 

We will continue our new educational series called “Politics 101” with a presentation on city government.  The goal of this series is to provide meaningful information and education about our city, county, state and federal political systems.

  • Houston Police Department Southeast Division, PIP (Positive Interaction Program) Meeting, Thursday, May 9, 2019, 7:00 PM, 8300 Mykawa Road.  The presentation will be on “3-1-1 & The App” system. 
  • The Next Chief’s Citywide PIP meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, 7:00 PM, 1602 State Street, Houston, Texas 77007 (Auditorium).  The program presentation topic will be upgrades to “CopLogic”, an online police reporting system, that increases citizens awareness and allows the convenience of filing a police report from anywhere that has internet access.

Dear Fellow Civic Members and Friends:

 

The Crestmont Park Civic Association invites you to our monthly meeting this Tuesday, April 2, 2019, 7:00 PM, 5200 Selinsky Blvd., Houston, Texas 77048.  Our first guest speaker will be The Honorable Judge Erica Hughes.  She is the presiding judge for the Harris County Criminal Court-at-Law Number 3. Judge Hughes is one of the “Houston 19”, the group that has also come to call themselves, "Harris County Black Girl Magic."  The Houston 19 refers to the additional 17 African-American women who were elected this past November to courts in Harris County, therefore bring the total number of African-American women judges to a record of 19.  Come out and hear her uniquely refreshing perspective on criminal justice.

 

Our second guest speaker will be Ms. Lisa Kasianowitz, Outreach Manager for the Houston Parks Board.  Lisa will update us on the development of greenspace at ML King Blvd and Sims Bayou into a “pocket park”.  The Houston Parks Board and its project partners are transforming Sims Bayou into Sims Bayou Greenway, a public green space and hike-and-bike trails connecting surrounding communities to parks, nature, and one another.

We have planned an exciting meeting, this Tuesday, March 5, 2019, 7:00 PM, at the Crestmont Park Community Center, 5200 Selinsky Boulevard, Houston, TX.  77048. 

 

We will start off with a Women’s History presentation by some youth from our community. 

 

They will be followed by our “Women On the Move” presentation from several women who will share their stories of success and accomplishments.

 

We’ll also provide updates on several ongoing community projects such as: 

 

1. Our scholarship program  

2. City of Houston Capital Improvement Plan, highlighting projects that will impact our community.

3. Our community banquet – planned for October. We also welcome your thoughts and concerns.

 

By the way, we are still collecting association annual dues, which are: $25 per household, $50 per organization. 

 

As always, we sincerely appreciate your continued financial support.

Dear Fellow Civic Members and Friends:

 

Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 5200 Selinsky Bvld., Houston, TX 77048 at 7:00 PM.  

 

 

In celebration of "BLACK HISTORY MONTH", we have planned an exciting meeting. 

 

First, we will have a special cultural presentation by students from Codwell Elementary School Drama Group. 

 

They will be followed by Sister Mama Sonya. 

She is a poet, playwright, actor, story-weaver, motivational speaker, author and minister of the gospel.  Her poetic expressions have been shared across the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda and Ghana, and West Africa. 

 

Also, City of Houston Council member, Amanda Edwards will honor us with her presence.  She is coming to talk to us about Opportunity Zones.  Opportunity Zones are census tracts the Federal Government have deemed eligible to receive private investments to spur economic growth in communities that need it the most. The Council Member is currently working on ways to make that investment responsible to and inclusive of our community.

    City of Houston, Southeast Houston Mobility Plan Public Meeting, Wednesday, February 6, 2019, 6:00-8:00PM, Sunnyside Multi-Service Center, 9314 Cullen Blvd., Houston, TX 77033. The Planning & Development Department is hosting its second round of public meetings for the Southeast Houston Mobility Plan. Come learn more about draft recommendations to improve how you get around in your community (inclusive of vehicular, transit, pedestrian, bicycle and freight)  . Please arrive early for a presentation, followed by design and mapping activities to capture your feedback.     For more information contact: Mobility.Planning@Houstontx.gov

The Crestmont Park Civic Association invites you to our monthly meeting and  CELEBRATION OF OUR 55TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY EVENT this Tuesday, December 4, 2018, 7:00 PM, 5200 Selinsky Blvd., Houston, Texas 77048.  We will recognize a few civic members for their outstanding Community Service.  We’ll also have refreshments to celebrate our anniversary and the holiday season.  Come out  and celebrate with us.

July 3, 2018 Meeting

 

The Crestmont Park Civic Association invites you to our monthly meeting, Tuesday, July 3, 2018, 7:00 PM, 5200 Selinsky Blvd., Houston, TX.  77048

 

Our first guest speaker will be Ms. Anita Williams who is with the Health and Wellness Ministry of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church – Crestmont Campus.  She will introduce us to this new ministry that seeks to inform the community about topics such as Medicare, and how to navigate through this program, as well as, other ministry related topics.    

 

Our second guest speakers will be Ms. Lesley Maria Diaz, artist.  She is going to share with us ideas on how we can invigorate our park facilities and community with new artwork (murals, painting, etc.) that is community influenced. 

 

We also want to get your feedback on how we should move forward on planning our 55th year anniversary.  We will share information on other community projects and items of interest.
